The Shaw and Partners Financial Services Coolangatta Gold is one of the most challenging endurance races in surf sports.
What began as the central theme for a motion picture 39 years ago, now commands a place on Australia’s annual calendar of prestigious sporting events.
In 2023, the event returns over the weekend of 14-15 October. It is one of a handful of events organised by Surf Life Saving Australia that is open to the public as well as surf lifesaving club members.
The Coolangatta Gold consists of a 21km Short Course run on Saturday and a 41.8km Long Course race run, extending from Coolangatta to Broadbeach on Sunday. The multi-disciplinary course combines swimming, running, board paddling and surf skiing.
Once again in 2023, the event will see the inclusion of the Youth Challenge and will host a Downwind Paddle as part of the Shaw and Partners Australian Ocean Racing Series for 2023.
With over 57kms of pristine coastline and diverse surf conditions depending on the time of year, the Gold Coast is the ultimate stage for major surf sporting events like the Coolangatta Gold.
