The Aussies Ocean Swim is heading to North Kirra Beach in 2022 to showcase how highly competitive ocean swimming is in the Gold Coast.
The Aussies Ocean Swim is an event that is open to both Surf Life Saving members and also the general public, where competitors swim a 2km ocean race that embodies the essence of fun and participation. This race will feature some of Australia’s best ocean athletes. The Ocean Swim is a championship event that awards medals and points on the line for competing Surf Life Saving Clubs. In 2022, the Aussie Ocean Swim will be held as part of the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast.
North Kirra Beach is situated on the Southern Gold Coast right next to Coolangatta. There’s variations on what the word Kirra actually means, but some believe Queensland Aboriginal people named it after a boomerang. This beach is known for it’s world-class breaks despite beach erosion issues changing the game and nature of the surf spot a bit.
