The Gold Coast has secured the Wheelchair Rugby National Championships for 2022 and 2023.
The 2022 Wheelchair Rugby National Championships is the largest wheelchair rugby event in the Southern Hemisphere, featuring all Australian Steelers players and the New Zealand Wheel Blacks. This even will take place over three days commencing Friday 24 June, 2022 with the Bronze and Gold medal matches to take place on Sunday 26 June, 2022.
This is the second time the event has been held on the Gold Coast, having been held in Sydney for the previous eight years. The event attracts Australia’s top wheelchair rugby talent competing for their state team for the honour of National Champions. The event also serves as a selection trial for the Australian Steelers, with the NSW Gladiators the reigning champions having won the 2021 national title.
The event will be held at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre which is one of the city’s premier sporting venues boasting a state-of-the-art design and breathtaking architecture. It also hosted many elite sporting events during the 2018 Commonwealth Games so is the perfect venue to showcase our athletes competing in the Wheelchair Rugby National Championship.
The 2022 Wheelchair Rugby National Championships is proudly supported by Major Events Gold Coast.
