SWELL Sculpture Festival

Queensland’s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition, SWELL Sculpture Festival is back for its 20th year this September 2022!

With over 70 large-scale sculptures, the Gold Coast’s Currumbin Beach will be transformed into a free and all-inclusive outdoor sculpture park. Connecting people, art and place, SWELL will transform public spaces spread along the Gold Coast into family-friendly outdoor sculpture galleries, located in Currumbin Beach, Chevron Island, Coomera and Helensvale.

SWELL Smalls Gallery will be popping up beachside with the new look SWELL Fringe Festival boasting artistic programming including masterclasses, artist panels, artistic culinary experiences, live music and SWELL Art Parties plus more.

SWELL 2022 will see the premiere of Living Sculptures: How The Birds Got Their Colours, a breath-taking Indigenous-led performance piece featuring world-class performers from Arc Circus. The piece fuses traditional First Nations dance and storytelling, contemporary circus, and sculpture. It will be performed on the beach alongside the static sculptures. Additionally, exhibitions across the Gold Coast will be presented as northerlySWELL in Helensvale and the newly activated industrialSWELL at The Boat Works, Coomera.

Home to the Main Exhibition, Currumbin Beach and Esplanade runs just over one kilometre almost seamlessly integrating together, serving as a one-of-a-kind event destination for a range of significant community and cultural events.

Regularly voted Queensland’s cleanest beach, this pristine location offers crystal clear water, ample space and breathtaking views from Surfers Paradise to Coolangatta. It’s not hard to understand why Currumbin Beach is a common destination for a diverse range of events. Currumbin Beach also forms part of the World Surfing Reserve with a break that tends to experience larger waves from a wider directional range than the neighbouring southern beach breaks due to the reduced sheltering effects of Greenmount and Snapper Rocks.

SWELL Sculpture Festival is proudly supported by Major Events Gold Coast.
