Major Events Gold Coast (MEGC) is a result of the amalgamation of three City of Gold Coast entities, Surfers Paradise Alliance est. 2000, Broadbeach Alliance est. 2002 and Connecting Southern Gold Coast est. 2010.
The purpose of the entities was the development of events and festivals which would attract the drive market from SEQ (Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich) and the interstate traveller wishing to come to the Gold Coast for an event or festival. Ultimately this would generate visitor nights and promotion of our destination, as an events and festivals hub.
The City of Gold Coast Council voted in November 2018 to establish an organisation that would have a whole-of-city approach focusing on the delivery and attraction of only Major Events whilst building our cities reputation as an events destination hub of significance.
In August 2019, the MEGC Chair and Board were appointed who combined, have exceptional governance and major national and international events expertise to guide the development of the organisation.
Their charter is to build a high-value major events portfolio for the Gold Coast via the delivery and development of events that attract significant out-of-region visitation, in turn generating strong spending in the city and promoting the city’s image as a global events destination to a wide national and international audience.
