Gold Coast festival set to host world premiere art installation in 2021

A Gold Coast festival is set to host a world premiere art installation in 2021, transforming Surfers Paradise into a floral-inspired wonderland.

Beyond the Sand Arts Festival made the announcement this morning, confirming that it will host the world premiere art installation of internationally renowned Australian Artist, Amanda Parer at the 2021 festival.

The free multi-medium arts festival will unveil Amanda Parer’s biggest art installation ‘Lost’, a never before seen larger-than-life artwork featuring rare botanicals that will be scattered throughout Surfers Paradise beachfront from March 13 -21.

Adding to Parer’s extensive portfolio of global installations, ‘Lost’ has been created to celebrate and preserve nature. Featuring oversized extinct or endangered botanicals, the pieces are constructed by Nylon 210D, illuminated stunning LED lights and inflated using continual air blowers.

Artist Amanda Parer said she is counting down the days until her artwork will be revealed to the world at Beyond the Sand.

“I can’t wait to see the world premiere of ‘Lost’ come to life at Beyond the Sand, bringing my creative vision to life through monumental inflatable designs and vibrant LED colours. My vision is for the audience to explore their relationship with nature, and showcase the wonder of its beautiful forms,” Parer said.

“The exhibit will immerse viewers in nature’s beautiful form and vitality using oversized botanicals, designed to appear as an organic ‘growth’ of the Beyond the Sand Arts Festival.

Festivals like Beyond the Sand are crucial for showcasing the rich culture and art communities across the country and providing a platform for local artists,” she said.

Previously known as Sand Safari, the reimagined festival is going beyond existing offerings with eight large-scale installations, unique artworks from up-and-coming artists and activities and workshops. The event will also feature the annual Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, performances, and roving entertainment.

The Major Events Gold Coast owned and produced event will see Beyond the Sand transform Surfers Paradise into a beachfront gallery of colour, movement and music.

Major Events Gold Coast’s Director of Events and Festivals, Mark Duckworth, said securing the world premiere of such an influential voice in the Australian and global art community, will delight visitors travelling across the country to visit Beyond the Sand.

“We are so excited to collaborate with Amanda Parer to showcase the world premiere of ‘Lost’ at Beyond the Sand.  Displaying the work along the foreshore will play a vital role in the transformation of Surfers Paradise into a beachfront gallery,” said Mr Duckworth.

This year’s art festival will feature a circus-theme across nine captivating days and nights. The event will support Gold Coast accommodation providers by driving overnight visitation and encouraging visitors and local residents to come in early and stay late, to fully experience the Gold Coast’s art community offering.
